Committee Descriptions and Responsibilities
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee shall consist of four members, the chairman of the deacons,and the Treasurer of the Church. Each of the four members shall be elected by the Church to serve for aterm of three years. The church will elect one new member each year. No member shall be eligible for re-election until one year shall have expired after the expiration of his term of office.
The Finance Committee shall have charge of and direct the financial program of the Church under and through recommendations made to the Church by the Active Deacons. This committee shall study the financial needs of the Church, and shall make their recommendations to the Active Deacons, and the Active Deacons to the Church. Moreover, it shall be the duty of this Finance Committee to prepare the annual budget of the Church. The committee will then present the budget of the church with the approval of the active deacons. The Finance Committee will consider the budget need requests from all ministry leaders and/or committees.
Safety and Security Committee
This committee shall consist of 5 members. The purpose of this committee is to prepare a risk management plan for the church to include, but not be limited to: procedures and policies for security of buildings, check lists and inspection forms (and a timeline for doing them), review of insurance coverage for church property and buses, develop contingency plans for crisis management and training volunteers to assist in the above duties. It shall be the duty of this committee to prepare and implement plans for minimizing the risk and the liability for the protection of the church. They shall be responsible for review of insurance coverage, security of buildings and buses, background checks of volunteers and voluntary inspections.
BuildingMaintenance Committee
The BuildingMaintenance Committee shall be elected by the Church and shall consist of five persons. This committee, along with the pastoral staff,shall have supervision responsibility over the church custodian(s). The building maintenance committee shall be responsible for the care and upkeep of the church building and equipment therein. They shall be responsible for the maintenance and operation of all equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions and specifications. This committee shall be responsible for recommending to the church the purchase of furniture, building maintenance equipment, and major office equipment.
Missions Committee
The Missions Committee shall consist of five members, one of whom shall be the President of the W.M.U., and one of whom shall be the President of the Baptist Men. It shall promote and supervise all missionary activities of the Church. This committee shall have the responsibility of setting the goal for the annual World Mission Offering. Any mission projects which would require use of the Mission Project Fund must be approved for recommendation to the church by this committee.
Fellowship Committee
This committee shall consist of ten people. It shall be the duty of this committee to formulate and recommend all church-widefellowship activities sponsored by the Church.
Music Committee
The Music Committee shall consist of five members, one of whom shall be President of the choir. This committee shall oversee the musical programs of the Church, including the upkeep and replacement of music equipment. The Minister of Music shall be an ex-officio member of this committee.
Preschool/Children’s Committee
This committee shall consist of five members, including the paid nursery coordinator and the extended session coordinator. The committee determines childcare policies, nursery worker qualifications, and keeps the preschool/children’s ministry up to date. The committee will work with the Children’s Ministry Coordinator to give leadership and vision to the Preschool/Children’s ministry of the church.
Bus Ministry Committee
This committee will consist of four members. It shall be the duty of the committee to yearly elect a chairman who will recommend to the church the purchase of and sale of vehicles. The committee will manage maintenance and repair costs, establish vehicle safety rules, and oversee drivers. It is also the committee’s duty to present the finance committee a yearly budget on projected vehicle expenses.
Flower Committee
This committee shall consist of five people whose duty shall be to furnish flowers for all church services. In addition, in case of death in the immediate family of any member of the Church, this committee shall send appropriate flowers in the name of the church.
Food Benevolence Committee
This committee shall consist of six members. Two members shall rotate off each year. The committee shall be responsible for contacting the family and offering to provide a meal the day of the funeral, either at the home or to be served at the church.
Media Library Committee
This committee shall consist of four members, one of whom will be the librarian. It shall be responsible for the care and operation of the church media library and the promotion of its use. The Church Librarian shall be Chairman of this committee. Three other members shall be elected by the church. The duties of the committee will include receipt, recording and circulating all books, and other materials which arepurchased by or donated to the church for use in the library.
Weekday Preschool Committee
It shall be the duty of this committee to oversee the operation and direction of the weekday preschool (Tender Care). It will be responsible for the evaluation of the Director of Tender Care. The Director will evaluate the staff. In the event of a vacancy in that position the committee will have the responsibility of finding a replacement and bringing the recommendation to the church for hiring.
This committee will be responsible for the disbursement of funds, along with the Director of Tender Care, in accordance with good stewardship practice and the church by-laws.
This committee will consist of four members and the Director of Tender Care, who will be an ex-officio member. The members shall include: one deacon, one parent of a child in the program that is also a church member, and two members at large. It will be a rotating committee with two members elected every third year and one member elected every other year. The term will be three years and the committee will elect a chairman each year.
Grounds Committee
This committee shall consist of six members. It is the responsibility of this committee to develop and maintain a master plan of landscaping the church property. They will oversee the care and maintenance of the property of the church outside of the church building through enlistment of volunteers or hiring of individuals. This would include a plan for lawn mowing, weed-eating, watering, and care of trees and plants, and snow removal from parking and walking areas.
This committee is to oversee the development and maintenance of the First Baptist Church Prayer Garden and to prepare an annual budget recommendation for this area.
Kitchen Committee
This committee will consist of five members including a representative of the social and recreation committee and one of the Wednesday night supper cooks. The other three committee members will be elected by the church. The three elected members will serve three years with one member rotating off each year.
This committee shall be responsible for overseeing the use and upkeep of the church kitchen, including all church kitchen equipment. The chairman of this committee shall notify the maintenance committee promptly of any necessary repairs.
This committee shall also be responsible for decisions regarding Wednesday night supper. These decisions shall include, but are not limited to, organization, menus, and the pricing of meals. This committee shall also make recommendations to the personnel committee regarding the hiring of Wednesday night supper staff and their wages. Wednesday night suppers are considered a mission outreach of the church, and will remain as cost effective as possible. This committee will work to ensure that the outreach continues to pay for itself.
