The Women's Missionary Union founded in 1888 is an auxiliary of the of the Southern Baptist Convention, headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama.  WMU is a non-profit organization made up of State Organizations in turn made up of Associations and individual churches.

The Mission Mosaic is the national WMU a magazine which contains information and resources to guide local church groups in meetings and mission activities.

Women on Missions (WOM) is a womens' organization for ages 18 and up through which women:

     Learn about missions

Pray for and give to missions

     Do missions

Develop spiritually toward a mission lifestyle

Participate in the work of the church and denomination

In 1888, WMU began efforts to raise money for "foreign missions" and in 1918 it was named the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in honor of the leader in this effort.  This is a yearly event in December by the International Mission Board.

In 1895 an effort was made to raise money for "home missions" and this offering was named the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering in 1934 for the leader in this effort.  This too is a yearly event at Easter by the North American Mission Board (formerly Home Mission Board).

Each state has their own way of raising money for missions and in Arkansas it's the Dixie Jackson Offering in September.  So named for a native Arkansan.  This year September 21-28 is the week of prayer and offering for Dixie Jackson.  This offering funds such things as new church start-ups, chaplaincy supplies for jail and prison ministry and disaster relief.

First Baptist Church Siloam Springs WOM meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 10am in Room 240.  Ths purpose of the group is consistent with the WMU overall purpose that

EVERY PERSON HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR AND RESPOND TO THE GOSPEL!

Each member of this group is provided a monthly copy of Mission Mosaic.  For more information contact Loretta Dismang at 549-9027 or ldiz@centurytel.net or Coralie Sawyer at 524-0060.
