In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
FirstBaptistChurch is a congregation that believes in supporting and doing mission work at every level that Jesus calls us to. In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." First Baptist believes that the church should be involved in ministry and evangelism with each of the groups that Jesus describes in this verse.
“Jerusalem” – First Baptist believes that first of all we are called to share the good news with the mission field of our own community of Siloam Springs. This is done through the ministries of our own church and also in cooperation with other churches and ministries in our city. We partner with The Manna Center – a local food distribution ministry; The Genesis House – a day shelter for the homeless; and New Beginnings Pregnancy Center – a local crisis pregnancy center. Missions begins at our doorstep and First Baptist has always sought to reach our own community for Christ.
“Judea” – Beyond the local community, FirstBaptistChurch also seeks to minister and share the gospel with those in BentonCounty and throughout the state of Arkansas. We do this by contributing to the Northwest Arkansas Baptist Association and the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. Mission work that is accomplished through partnering with these two organizations includes: ministry with Hispanics, new church starts, Baptist universities and hospitals, Mississippi delta ministry and much more.
“Samaria” – When Jesus challenged the disciples to take the gospel to Samaria He was pushing them to reach out to people who were in close proximity but of a different culture. First Baptist is doing this through our Hispanic mission in partnership with Primera Iglesia Bautista of Springdale. In addition, our congregation also ministers to the Hispanic community through our ESL (English as Second Language) program.
“To the ends of the earth” – The challenge of taking the gospel to the whole world is not something that one church can do alone. That is why FirstBaptistChurch has chosen to join together with other agencies to help support missionaries and ministries throughout our nation and around the world. Members from our own church family have participated in mission trips to places such as Tanzania, Guatemala, Ireland, Ecuador, Mexico and Alaska. In addition, teams from First Baptist have taken mission trips to Chicago, Atlanta, Mobile, San Antonio, Wyoming and Washington. Through our missions giving First Baptist supports over 7500 missionaries in over 100 countries around the world. In North America, we support missions by giving to the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Missionaries in foreign countries are supported through the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
In addition to mission action, mission study and support are an important aspect of the mission strategy of FirstBaptistChurch. Click here to see the mission study and support groups we offer.
