Leadership

In order to help you get to know us a little better, we have included several short biographies about our Staff, and also a list of Sunday school teachers and the classes they teach.

First Baptist Church is led by a pastoral team of five full-time pastors. These pastors, who have their own areas of focused responsibility, work together with other paid staff members and volunteer leaders to carry out the ministry of the church.

First Baptist Church believes that the Bible teaches that all Christians are called to minister.

"Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We each have different gifts according to the grace given us." Romans 12:4-6

It is the responsibility of the pastors to equip the members for ministry by helping them to discover their spiritual gifts, passions, and talents. Pastors are also to lead out in helping members to find ways to use their gifts and abilities.

"God gave some...some to be pastors and teachers to prepare God's people for works of ministry, so that the body of Christ may be built up...." Ephesians 4:11-12

Pastors are to shoulder the bulk of the administration of the church so that the members are freed up to fulfill their calling to do ministry.

The volunteer leadership of First Baptist Church is organized into ministry teams (committees) who give leadership to the various ministries of the church. Anyone can become involved in a ministry by contacting a member of the ministry leadership team. The contact names are listed under "service opportunities" in the ministry section.

First Baptist Church is also led by a volunteer group of ministers called "Deacons". Deacons are leaders who have demonstrated spiritual maturity and a servant’s heart and are recognized by the church in a process that involves training and ordination. The fellowship of deacons meets each month on the first Sunday and gives leadership to outreach, ministry to widows and widowers, serving the Lord’s Supper and many other areas.
