Heart Life Ministries and Missions

Facebook
Heart Life goes on line!  Please look for us on Facebook and join the Heart Life group.

Barnabas Bags
Sandy Martin
Our new Barnabas Bags will replace our Secret Pal tradition beginning in 2011- with a twist!  We’re keeping the specifics on this one a secret. They will be unveiled at the Heart Life retreat in January, but wanted to give you a little teaser.  You may remember that the name Barnabas means “Gift of Encouragement” and that’s the only hint you will receive for now!

Solid Ground I
Loretta Dismang
This four-week class will cover the basics of the Christian faith and walk.  Strategically planned for March, 2011, February Neighborhood Brunch attendees will be invited to attend.  Feel free to come yourself for a “refresher,” or use this short-term commitment as an opportunity to bring along a friend who needs to know Jesus and the truth of the Bible.  Plans are also being made to follow up with a Solid Ground II for those who are motivated to continue.

Heart Strings
Lillian Allison
When one part of the body hurts, we all hurt.  Coming alongside a hospitalized woman (or one who is the caregiver for a hospitalized loved one) is the heart of this new ministry.  Not intended to replace the pastoral visits, Heart Strings will supplement with a tender touch and a visit from a woman to a woman.  A Heart Strings bracelet will be slipped onto the wrist of each hurting woman as she is prayed for by a member of the Heart Strings team.  The bracelet will be an on-going reminder that her FBC friends care and are continuing to pray. Our team is grateful for the time and talent of Cassie Perryman who will be hand making our Heart Strings bracelets.

Oh, Baby!
Many of you are probably not aware that Heart Life Women’s Ministry presents a package of diapers to each mom when a new FBC baby is born.  Our leadership team will be launching a new ministry to build on this idea.  Once or twice a year (depending on the FBC birth rate!) we will have an Oh, Baby! event to meet and honor our new babies and moms.  All ladies are invited to come with a package of diapers.  We’ll have a brief devotional, ooh and aah over the latest additions, and enjoy fellowship with one another.  Watch for details on how you can join in on the fun as we glorify God by welcoming these new blessings.

Reel to Real
Coming Summer 2011
Popcorn, laughter, sighs, and tears are sure to be on the agenda for our Heart Life movie night.  Join us for a break from the summer heat, as we enjoy fun, food, fellowship, and a great chick flick. We hope the sharing time afterwards will promote some “reel to real” discussion and inspiration.  More details (including the date) to come.

Summer Book Club
Coming Summer 2011
Sue Daughtery
Who better than our own FBC librarian to host our first (hopefully, annual) summer reading book club?  Sue has chosen Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore as the first book on our Heart Life reading list.  You can put it on your Christmas list and have plenty of time to find it before summer.  Look for more details in the spring.

SOS:  Serving Our Soldiers
Linda Brown
God placed this ministry on the heart of our own Linda Brown and Heart Life wants to help her fulfill this calling.  We’re convinced that one of the best ways to serve a soldier is to serve the wife he leaves behind.  If you know of a military woman on active duty or a military wife from our community, please send contact information to Linda at HeartLife@fbcsiloam.com. You can note your interest in the SOS team on the Heart Life registration form at the back of this booklet.

Welcome Home!
Brenda Hall
The five senses are the inspiration for Brenda and her team as they seek to welcome ladies new to the FBC body. This Heart Life team ensures that each woman who visits FBC receives several touches - a phone call to welcome her to FBC; a written note or email; an invitation to Wednesday night Supper and First Sunday Lunch; a “Welcome to FBC hug” on Sunday morning when she joins, followed up by a personal home visit and a plate of cookies or small gift. Through the efforts of this team, over 80 women have been “touched” this year.  Many of these have joined FBC.  We are pleased that Heart Life can be part of making FBC a friendly and welcoming church.

Heart Lines Newsletter
Sherrill Davis
You have Sherrill to thank for the newsletter you see on our Heart Life table each month.  Current and past issues are always available on the FBC website.  Heart Life is attempting to “go green” by distributing our newsletter electronically.  Please add your email address to the Heart Life registration form at the back of this booklet.  If you are a writer, an editor, or just have a recipe to share, your input is always welcome.

Clean-Up Crew
Sherrill Davis & Loretta Dismang
We women know that the most laughter and fun come from time in the kitchen after Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.  The same is often the case for our Heart Life Clean-Up Crew.  Their time together after each event not only is about “getting the job done,” but about some sweet fellowship while they do it.  Whether you can serve one time or several times, your help is a blessing to our ministry.  You can note your interest in the Heart Life Clean-Up Crew on the registration form at the back of this booklet.

Prayer Team
Charlotte Barnett & Ericka Payne
Like everything else in life, our Heart Life ministry desires to make prayer the foundation of all we do.  Our prayer team receives specific prayer requests each month and commits to pray for these items.  We are grateful for their partnership with us.  Though an often unseen ministry, they are vital to the success of all we do.

Missions
Heart Life Seminars
We have planned three Heart Life seminars for this year – one in October, November, and April.  These will be tremendous opportunities for you to learn a new skill, be spiritually challenged or be encouraged by what God is doing in the life of another woman.  (See the event section for details of each seminar.)
These events are intentionally evangelistic, so we hope you will consider inviting a friend to join you.  A postcard sized invitation will be available on the Heart Life Women’s Ministry table a few weeks prior to each Heart life seminar.  Come and be blessed!

Women on Mission (Women’s Missionary Union)
Loretta Dismang
WMU and Heart Life are “sister” ministries at First Baptist Church.  While Heart Life seeks to minister to women, WMU seeks to enlist women in serving others.  There are many areas for working together.  Loretta Dismang, the WMU chair, is also a member of the Heart Life Leadership Team.
WMU is an organization through which women are able to learn about missions, pray for missions, give to missions, do missions, and develop spiritually toward a mission lifestyle.

Love Out Loud
Loretta Dismang
This year we are challenging each Bible study group to devote one meeting session to a service or mission project.  We’re calling these Love Out Loud days.  Heart Life will be working with the WMU to develop a list of Love Out Loud opportunities.  These may include giving manicures to the ladies at the nursing home, washing and ironing clothes at the Manna Center, planting flowers at the Genesis House, or volunteering at the Crisis Pregnancy Center.  More details to come.
